Ingeteam has been chosen as the technology partner for BP’s 133-MW green hydrogen project in Germany. This project will be BP Plc’s first large-scale green hydrogen plant that is fully owned and operated by BP.

Supplying Key Equipment

Ingeteam will provide 20 units of its full skid solution, which includes 40 INGECON H2 E6000 rectifiers, to power the electrolysers. The contract also covers equipment commissioning.

Location and Production

The new facility will be located near BP’s Lingen oil refinery, 25 km from the Dutch border. The plant aims to produce up to 11,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year to replace grey hydrogen, which is made using carbon reforming. Initially, the plant will be powered by offshore wind energy through a power purchase agreement.

Supporting Industrial Decarbonization

The hydrogen produced will support industries like steel and chemical manufacturing, helping them decarbonize production processes. The Lingen refinery, also benefiting from the hydrogen, processes around 100,000 barrels of crude oil daily, producing heating fuels and chemical feedstocks. It was the first refinery to test renewable hydrogen back in 2018.

Funding and Support

In July, the project received financial support from Germany’s federal ministry for economic affairs and climate action and the Lower-Saxony government through the European IPCEI Hy2Infra programme.

Ingeteam’s Expertise in Hydrogen

Ingeteam started applying its power electronics and control electronics technology to the hydrogen industry in 2020. Since then, the company has supplied electrolyser technology in several countries, including Belgium, Australia, Germany, Spain, the US, and Canada.
