The Italian government has announced a new tender titled “Dialogo competitivo per la fornitura di un impianto di produzione idrogeno verde alimentato da un impianto fotovoltaico,” aiming to further develop green hydrogen production capabilities.

The tender was published on October 24, 2024, with a submission deadline set for November 25, 2024. This initiative is a significant step in the SulkHy project, which is part of Italy’s broader plan to develop a hydrogen valley in the Sulcis region. It represents a vital stride toward boosting the green hydrogen industry, an essential component of the EU’s transition to renewable energy sources under the PNRR – M2C2-I3.1 framework.

The primary objective of this tender is to construct a green hydrogen production facility powered by a photovoltaic plant. The project aims to demonstrate the feasibility and efficiency of using solar energy to produce hydrogen, which can significantly reduce carbon emissions associated with traditional hydrogen production methods. By focusing on renewable energy sources, the project intends to establish a sustainable hydrogen production process that can serve as a model for other regions.

The tender details require the participating companies to design, build, and maintain the hydrogen production plant. Key requirements include the use of advanced electrolyzer technology capable of efficiently converting solar energy into hydrogen. The plant must also integrate seamlessly with the associated photovoltaic system to maximize energy efficiency and production output.
