The Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), led by Director Sang-Rok Oh, announced on the 2nd that it has launched a new mission-oriented research institute called the Clean Hydrogen Convergence Research Institute.
KIST appointed Dr. Seok-Woo Nam as the institute’s new project manager (PM). It brought on a hydrogen expert, Professor Kwan-Young Lee, formerly of Korea University’s Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering.
Dr. Seok-Woo Nam, the new head of the institute, is a seasoned researcher in fuel cells and chemical hydrogen storage. He has played a crucial role at KIST, notably enhancing high-temperature fuel cell technologies and pioneering the fundamental technology for hydrogen storage and extraction via compounds.
Diverse Expertise for Future Goals
Scholar Kwan-Young Lee is proficient in various areas, including liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC), bioenergy, and environmental catalysts. His work has included the development of biocatalysts for biomass conversion and collaborative research on direct synthesis of hydrogen peroxide with KIST researchers. He has previously been dean of the graduate school and vice president of research at Korea University.

Director Sang-Rok Oh of KIST remarked, “We have made bold choices to enhance the research capabilities of the Clean Hydrogen Convergence Research Institute that KIST aspires to lead. We anticipate that the institute will achieve world-class clean hydrogen convergence research results.”
