Northern Reliability (NRI) has selected KORE Power’s battery systems for a project at Vermont Electric Power Company’s (VELCO) headquarters in Rutland, Vermont.

The Pinnacle Ridge Solar and Storage Project will have 1.2 MWh of battery capacity to store electricity from a 500 kW solar array. VELCO would then use this energy instead of grid power during periods of high-priced, peak system demand to minimize electricity costs and improve grid stability.

NRI will develop the project together with fellow Vermont renewable energy leader Catamount Solar of Randolph.

“NRI has served the United States government and military, the scientific community, the utility sector and private institutions with solar and energy storage solutions. Now, the fact that this global leader has chosen our technology for this project in its own back yard—where reputations can matter most—is a testament to NRI’s faith in our American-manufactured technology. We look forward to helping VELCO benefit from renewable power and energy storage and are thankful for our partnership with NRI. We see many opportunities to continue working together to deliver a high-quality solution that guarantees reliability and stability.”

Lindsay Gorrill, CEO of KORE Power.

“Delivering the highest quality product to our valued utility customers is NRI’s first order of business and that begins with choosing the right component vendors. With nearly 50 years of experience in energy storage, NRI knows the importance of choosing the best possible products to be included in their solutions. NRI has selected KORE Power for the VELCO project not only because of the quality of their platform, but the team behind it. We’re looking forward not only to working with the KORE team on this initiative in Vermont, but on larger projects across North America.”

Jay Bellows, president and CEO of Northern Reliability.

VELCO is actively pursuing a wide range of programs to boost the state-wide use of substations, radio sites and other assets to reduce prices, increase the usage of renewable power, broaden broadband access and enhance grid reliability. Construction on the Pinnacle Ridge Solar and Storage project is well underway and expected to be finished by the end of 2020.
