Cooperation is being planned between LHYFE and the joint venture JET H2 Energy to develop a hydrogen filling station in Schwäbisch Gmünd.

In 2024, construction will start. The initiative is a turning point for the city and pursues a comprehensive strategy for the quick expansion of the hydrogen economy.

An agreement to construct a 10 MW water electrolysis plant with a daily output capacity of up to 4 tons of green hydrogen was signed by Lhyfe and the town of Schwäbisch Gmünd in June 2022. The collaboration between Lhyfe and JET H2 Energy, which calls for the construction of a hydrogen filling station, is the next step in the growth of the neighborhood’s hydrogen infrastructure. In order to further support the local hydrogen economy, JET H2 Energy and Lhyfe will supply the planned refueling station with locally produced green hydrogen.

In line with the state’s ambitious hydrogen agenda, which it has been pursuing since 2020, Baden-Württemberg is a prominent player in the creation of electrolyzers, fuel cells, and their component parts. The state has recently committed or spent close to 500 million euros in support of fuel cell and hydrogen technology in the fields of research, development, and market introduction. With partnerships like this, Schwäbisch Gmünd is becoming a prototype area for the national expansion of hydrogen and filling station network as a primary supply infrastructure.
