With aspirations to become a leader in sustainable steelmaking, Liberty Steel is set to revolutionize its Whyalla operations, leveraging hydrogen and carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies to mitigate emissions and embrace renewable energy sources.

Partnering with Santos, Liberty Steel explores the potential of carbon capture and storage opportunities, aiming to become a key customer for the Moomba CCS project. This strategic alliance positions Liberty as a frontrunner in adopting innovative solutions for emissions reduction.

In tandem with its agreement with Santos, Liberty Steel embarks on a transformative journey with the SA government, eyeing supplies from the planned 250MW green hydrogen facility near Whyalla. This collaboration underscores Liberty’s commitment to green energy adoption and sustainable steel production.
