Linde Gas Singapore has teamed up with four other industry partners to investigate the construction of infrastructure to supply hydrogen to Keppel Corp’s data centers in Singapore.
The aim of the project is to provide data centers that consume a lot of electricity with green hydrogen made from water and renewable energy. Singapore has recently slowed the growth of data centers, owing to concerns about their high energy and water use.
Linde has signed an agreement with Keppel Data Centres Holdings Pte Ltd, Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd, and Vopak LNG Holding B.V to investigate the technological and commercial feasibility of a liquefied hydrogen supply chain.
Linde said in a statement that this includes the feasibility of providing a production and liquefaction plant and export terminal in the exporting country, transportation via ocean-going tankers, and an import terminal, storage units, and regasification facilities in Singapore.
According to Linde, the research will last until the end of 2021. After that, the partners will settle on the next step in their partnership.
