Linde has entered into a long-term arrangement with Infineon Technologies to produce and store high-purity green hydrogen on-site, in addition to providing other industrial gases.

This will be the first time that green hydrogen will be employed in the semiconductor production process at Infineon.

Linde will construct, own, and operate a two-megawatt electrolyzer plant at Infineon’s Austrian Villach facility. Green hydrogen will be generated at the plant using ITM Power’s Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) technology, which Linde will purify to fulfill the stringent criteria required by Infineon’s manufacturing process. Utilization of this ultra-pure green hydrogen is part of Infineon’s strategy to cut greenhouse gas emissions at its Villach facility.

Linde will also construct, own, and manage a compact air separation machine at the Villach site to ensure a stable supply of nitrogen, as well as a bulk storage system to suit Infineon’s rising requirements for industrial gases. Linde’s new facilities are scheduled to begin operations in 2022.
