Seven months post the ceremonial opening, Luxembourg’s hydrogen filling station at Eurohub in Bettembourg is not yet operational.
Reasons? Ongoing system tests and awaited certification, expected in this month, are holding up the public opening. The station was initially scheduled to begin operations in early 2023.
The hydrogen plant project saw an approximate investment of €3 million, according to its manager. Despite available subsidies of €8,000 for hydrogen-powered vehicles, only four such vehicles are currently registered in the country.
The Luxembourg government remains steadfast in its commitment to expand the hydrogen network. This initiative places Luxembourg strategically on the European map for hydrogen infrastructure. There have been indications from the ministers of progressing towards domestic hydrogen production, with efforts being made to prepare relevant tender calls.
