For a long time, the state government has been in contact with investors. A total of 2.5 billion euros will be invested, according to the report. Gas with a 25-terawatt-hour energy content will be delivered there starting in 2027, allowing for the production of half a million tons of hydrogen.
The project, according to Lower Saxony’s Environment and Energy Minister Olaf Lies (SPD), is a huge opportunity not only for the region, but also for the energy transition as a whole. Northern Germany has the potential to become Germany’s renewable energy hub.
The primary goal of climate change is to reduce CO2. There has been talk for months about the possibility of a nationwide hydrogen focus, particularly with Wilhelmshaven in mind.
