Malaga Invites Tenders for Electric Bus Chargers

On March 11, 2025, Gerencia de la Empresa Malagueña de Transportes S.A.M. issued an important tender titled “La contratación del suministro e instalación de cuarenta cargadores para autobuses eléctricos mediante pantógrafo invertido y manguera de conexión,” financed through Next Generation EU funds (Order HFP/1030/2021).

The deadline for submission was initially not specified but was part of significant efforts to advance transportation infrastructure in Malaga, Spain. This tender represents a substantial move towards integrating hydrogen-related technologies into public transportation, which could serve as a model for similar initiatives globally.

The primary aim of the tender was to procure and set up forty chargers specifically for electric buses, utilizing inverted pantograph and connection hose technologies. This initiative is critical for developing infrastructure that supports zero-emission public transportation. By facilitating the shift to electric buses, the project aligns with broader sustainability goals and demonstrates an actionable commitment to reducing urban carbon emissions.

Beyond addressing the local transportation needs, the tender’s focus on electrical chargers for buses indicates a broader strategic direction of reducing dependency on fossil fuels.

Technical requirements included the installation of charging systems capable of handling significant volumes and connecting different types of electric buses. The chargers’ design necessitated high efficiency and reliability to ensure seamless operation of the bus fleet. Such technical criteria are pivotal for minimizing operational downtime and maximizing energy utilization efficiency, making them significant to the hydrogen industry’s advancement toward practical, everyday applications.

This project underlines a shift in urban planning, wherein cities incorporate advanced, sustainable technology in routine operations, serving as a real-world testbed for hydrogen and electric transport solutions at scale.
