McDermott has joined AquaVentus, a growing partnership of over 70 businesses, organizations, and academic institutes working together in the North Sea to develop green hydrogen energy.

AquaVentus brings together international industry experts who share a vision for developing hydrogen’s position as a low-carbon, cost-effective energy option, bringing together their diverse skills to make that vision a reality.

“McDermott brings to this vibrant group of visionaries a long history of thinking creatively about energy delivery—and unparalleled experience in offshore infrastructure,” said Samik Mukherjee, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “As we work together to make offshore production of green hydrogen a reality, this is a key piece of the jigsaw.”

By 2035, AquaVentus hopes to generate 10 gigawatts of green hydrogen generating capacity from offshore wind turbines in the North Sea. The wind power generated is expected to be utilized to produce up to one million tons of green hydrogen per year, which will be used to decarbonize Heligoland and delivered to land by pipeline.

McDermott’s participation will provide the partnership with full engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) capabilities from concept to completion in the onshore, offshore, subsea, and storage industries.

“The German North Sea Offshore Wind sector will play a critical role in satisfying the renewable energy demand for Northern European industry and other markets,” Tareq Kawash, Senior Vice President, Europe, Middle East, and Africa, stated. “The sort of cooperation needed to make green hydrogen a commercially viable energy resource of the future is the type of collaboration that AquaVentus’ network of members, cooperating across the supply chain, provides.”
