The Humber region in the UK is on the brink of a significant leap forward in clean energy infrastructure with the advancement of plans for a green hydrogen production facility.
Meld Energy’s proposal, marked by the submission of a planning application, signifies a pivotal moment in the region’s transition towards a sustainable future.
Meld Energy’s selection of px Group’s Saltend Chemicals Park (SCP) as the site for the proposed facility underscores the strategic importance of the location. Situated in East Riding of Yorkshire, SCP provides an ideal environment for the development of green hydrogen infrastructure, leveraging existing industrial infrastructure and expertise.
At the heart of the proposed facility lies electrolysis, a process that involves splitting water (H2O) into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity. This technology enables the production of ‘Green’ Hydrogen, utilizing renewable energy sources to power the electrolysis process, thereby minimizing carbon emissions.
The envisioned hub aims to produce up to 100MW of green hydrogen annually, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels. By supplying green hydrogen to businesses at Saltend Chemicals Park, the facility could significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the site, aligning with the UK’s ambitious Net Zero targets.
