A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covering the preparations for a 5-MW turnkey green hydrogen project has been inked, according to Swedish energy systems provider Metacon, with the forest directorate of Poland’s city of Katowice.
The MoU specifies the procedures leading up to the delivery of a 5-MW electrolyzer system to be connected to a photovoltaic (PV) installation in Katowice, which is expected to cost USD 5.8 million.
The directorate will own and manage the PV system, and Metacon will set up the infrastructure and deploy the electrolyzers.
The deal is a component of the Regional Directorate of State Forests’ (RDSF) initiative to invest in renewable energy sources for use in public transportation. It has plans to build a number of green hydrogen production facilities.
Damian Sieber, the head of the RDSF, stated that the organization aims to utilize regions under its administration that will never be forests, like terrains beneath power lines. According to Sieber, the project for the creation and storage of green hydrogen is very important because it is now difficult to store excesses of green energy.
