Mitsubishi Power has announced plans to build the Takasago Hydrogen Park, which will be the world’s first center for validation of hydrogen-related technologies, from hydrogen manufacturing to power generation.

To promote the commercialization of hydrogen gas turbines utilizing hydrogen as fuel, the center will be co-located with MHI’s Takasago Machinery Works’ gas turbine development and manufacturing site in Hyogo Prefecture.

The Takasago Hydrogen Park will be built next to the T-Point 2 combined cycle power plant validation facility, and Mitsubishi Power has already started testing and demonstrating technologies such as hydrogen production and storage, as well as hydrogen fueling of gas turbines, with plans to start operations in 2023. Mitsubishi Power wants to test and verify various next-generation hydrogen production methods, such as turquoise-hydrogen synthesis by pyrolysis of methane into hydrogen and solid carbon, using the hydrogen production plant, which uses a water electrolysis technology.

MHI aims to construct a ‘hydrogen ecosystem’ that will form the foundation of a sustainable society by expanding hydrogen investments and accelerating commercialization via verification at Takasago Hydrogen Park.
