Reliance Industries (RIL), Larsen and Toubro (L&T), Greenko Group, and Welspun New Energy are joining forces to establish facilities for green hydrogen and ammonia production at the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla, Gujarat.

This collaborative effort, with an anticipated investment of up to ₹1 Lakh Crore, is set to become a cornerstone in India’s energy sector. Sources familiar with the project emphasize its ambitious scale and potential impact, heralding a new era of sustainable energy production.

The primary objective of this initiative is to harness green hydrogen and ammonia production as a sustainable energy solution. With a target of producing 7 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia and 1.4 MTPA of green hydrogen, the project aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By utilizing water electrolysis powered by renewable energy sources, the initiative strives to achieve zero emissions, contributing to India’s commitment to combatting climate change and achieving carbon neutrality.

The project relies on cutting-edge technology, leveraging water electrolysis to produce green hydrogen and ammonia. Unlike traditional methods that rely on fossil fuels and emit harmful greenhouse gases, this clean process utilizes renewable energy sources to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen produced is then utilized in various applications, including industrial processes, transportation, and energy storage, while the ammonia serves as a vital component in fertilizer production and other industrial sectors.
