In the near future, NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy intends to begin evaluating the viability of storing hydrogen in underground gas storage (UGS) facilities.
“We are working on this project. Ukrtransgaz has a number of memorandums with European underground gas storage operators, which have been moving in this direction for several years and have actually come to test the reality of the capabilities of the equipment and reservoir for hydrogen storage,” JSC Ukrtransgaz’s chief engineer, Roman Kokhtiuk. said
He claims that although Naftogaz’s plans in this regard were altered slightly by the war, the company has already chosen which of the UGS facilities it will undertake the testing at.
