A team of researchers from Nanjing University, Hubei Normal University, and Zhejiang University has achieved a significant milestone in hydrogen production by developing a revolutionary cobalt-doped graphdiyne catalyst.

This composite catalyst showcases exceptional reactivity and stability in catalytically decomposing ammonia (NH3) to generate hydrogen (H2). The breakthrough could pave the way for cost-effective and scalable hydrogen utilization, revolutionizing the clean energy landscape.

The Co-doped graphdiyne catalyst achieved nearly complete decomposition of ammonia at 550 ˚C, with a stable conversion rate over 18 hours of continuous reaction. The project holds promise for safe and scalable hydrogen utilization and can potentially address the challenge of high-cost noble metal catalysts in ammonia decomposition.
