Enagás Renovables and Naturgy will build a renewable hydrogen production plant with a 280 megawatt electrolyser on the property of the La Robla coal-fired power station in Leon, investing more than 400 million euros and creating more than 50 jobs in its operation and maintenance.

The company will invest 160 million, create 50 industrial jobs in La Robla, and 350 biomass jobs.
The promoters told Aagesen that signing collaboration agreements with ArcelorMittal and Fertiberia as renewable hydrogen consumer partners will increase the electrolysis plant’s production capacity from 60 megawatts to 280 megawatts, making it the largest renewable hydrogen project in the Vía de la Plata corridor and one of the first large-scale plants associated with the Spanish H2Med network.
The Agreement for a Just Transition for Closing Thermal Power Plants between the Government, unions, and power plant owners promotes alternative investments in affected areas, including the renewable hydrogen project. The biomass plant will produce more jobs than the coal plant closure.
Miteco is also implementing the Just Transition Agreement for Central Leonesa-La Robla Mountain with development assistance instruments. The new medical center in La Robla, the extension of its industrial estate, and energy efficiency upgrades in educational, social, and municipal centers in Sabero, Matallana de Torío, Vegacervera, and La Robla have received eight million in help.
The 91-million-euro demand for environmental, social, and digital infrastructure projects is being handled, and 50-million-euro calls for business projects in just transition zones will be issued.
