The UK Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (UK HFCA) has established a new think tank to investigate the possibility of producing zero-carbon hydrogen using nuclear energy, both electrical and thermal.
Researchers, experts from the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL), an oil and gas company, and a law firm will be part of a new working group on nuclear-enabled hydrogen.
NNL and DNV worked together last year to investigate the possibility of using nuclear energy to help the UK’s gas networks switch to hydrogen.
The Nuclear Derived Hydrogen to Gas Networks collaboration, according to the UK HFCA, is expected to provide more evidence to support important upcoming government policy decisions on the role of hydrogen in buildings and for heating, and will be fed into the working group’s work going forward.
