A non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between NewMed Energy and Uniper aims to explore possibilities of working together on the production of blue and green hydrogen as well as the short- and long-term supply of LNG.
By utilizing current production and transmission infrastructure in accordance with the availability of the transmission pipeline between Israel and Egypt, where the natural gas will be delivered to LNG facilities, and from there to Germany, the parties will investigate the supply of natural gas from Israel to Germany in the near future, according to the MoU.
The MoU also covers prospective cooperation in the area of blue hydrogen and green hydrogen and its transit from Israel to Europe, in keeping with NewMed Energy’s strategic strategy, which states that the relationship is intended to promote green energy.
The two parties will also look into the viability of delivering LNG from the Leviathan reservoir to Uniper, which would necessitate a Phase 1B infrastructure expansion for Leviathan and the liquefaction of the gas either at an existing facility in Egypt or a newly constructed independent floating liquefaction facility in Israel.
