Chinese railway equipment manufacturer CRRC has made a historic move with the unveiling of the world’s first hydrogen-powered metro train. The train, which was unveiled at an event in Shanghai on Chinese Brands Day, has a speed of up to 160 km/h and can travel up to 600 km on a single charge.

thyssenkrupp nucera, one of the leading suppliers of water electrolysis technology in the gigawatt power range, announced the brand name for its 20MW green hydrogen electrolyser, Scalum. The announcement was made at the World Hydrogen Summit 2023 in Rotterdam. Scalum, derived from ‘scale,’ pays tribute to the module’s scalability, allowing for the interconnection of multiple modules to produce high plant capacities.

Germany has long been known for its ambitious plans to transition away from fossil fuels, and green hydrogen has been a critical element in this strategy. However, the country can only meet 30% of its own needs for this clean fuel, according to German Economy Minister Robert Habeck.
