HYLA is a new global brand formed by Nikola Corporation to encapsulate the company’s energy products for manufacturing, distributing, and dispensing hydrogen to fuel its zero-emissions trucks.

Nikola is establishing access to up to 300 metric tons of hydrogen per day (TPD) under the HYLA brand. The previously mentioned projects listed below, which are being built with Nikola partners, are anticipated to sustain this supply.

The Nikola Tre FCEV is anticipated to have among the greatest ranges of all commercially available zero tailpipe pollution Class 8 tractors, with a range of up to 500 miles, while also weighing less than battery-electric Class 8 trucks with comparable range. The Tre FCEV is suitable for a wide range of uses, including drayage, intermodal, metro-regional truckload, less than truckload, and certain specialty hauling use cases.

Based on anticipated technological advancements, refueling at Nikola fueling stations is predicted to take less than 20 minutes, making the switch from diesel to hydrogen a seamless one.

The PHH, which will be built in Buckeye, Arizona, is anticipated to be constructed in stages to scale with the demand generated by Nikola’s zero-emission trucks in the Southwest region, starting with 30 metric tons in the first phase and increasing to 150 metric-TPD in later phases. Once final investment decisions and normal regulatory clearances are made, construction of the first phase is projected to be finished in the second half of 2024.

Hydrogen Stations HYLA

The first hydrogen stations to be announced will be in California, in Colton, Ontario, and a location serving the Port of Long Beach, with the goal of having 60 hydrogen stations in operation by 2026. These Nikola stations are intended to support important clients to promote the state’s efforts to decarbonize the transportation sector. California is a launch market for Nikola.

By supplying hydrogen to its FCEV clients at locations that suit their needs, Nikola’s HYLA flexible mobile fueler solution is a crucial component of its flexible customer service in its early years. Hydrogen is compressed and cooled by the mobile fueler to quickly refuel 700 bar FCEV heavy-duty trucks. The mobile fueler can refuel customer trucks back-to-back when coupled with a hydrogen tube trailer with a 960 kg capacity.

Customers of Nikola will have a choice of flexible fuelling alternatives thanks to the mobile fueler program, which consists of both its own mobile fuelers and a number of third party mobile fuelers.

After commissioning and testing, the first mobile fueler has been made available for commercial use. In Q1 2023, Nikola’s additional hydrogen mobile fuelers will be put into service.
