NOVAdev plans to build a large-scale hydrogen test facility in California’s Antelope Valley.

This facility, the California Hydrogen Test and Training Center, aims to advance hydrogen storage, refueling, and power systems for air, land, and marine transportation industries. This article examines the company’s initiative, contextualizes its achievements within the hydrogen sector, and critically evaluates the potential impacts and challenges.

The primary objective of NOVAdev’s new facility is to provide a dedicated space for comprehensive hydrogen system testing. Michael Kramer, NOVAdev’s founder and CEO, emphasized the critical need for such a facility, highlighting the current scarcity and high costs of large-scale hydrogen system testing. By addressing these gaps, NOVAdev aims to support global hydrogen storage and power systems development.

The facility will occupy a 200 to 400-acre site in California’s Antelope Valley, a region already home to significant aerospace and automotive testing centers. The site plan includes five specialized test cells, each designed for specific development and certification testing needs. These test cells will accommodate a range of hydrogen systems, including structures up to 20,000 pounds and 30 feet long.
