The head of the largest gas pipeline operator, Open Grid Europe, stated that Germany must accelerate the pace of a hydrogen law amendment, which is pending in Berlin, to enable related investments in gas transport networks up until the end of the decade (OGE).
During his presence at the annual Handelsblatt Energy Summit 2023, OGE CEO Joerg Bergmann told Reuters that he would like the revision of the hydrogen strategy update to be finished in the first quarter of 2023.
“Investment decisions must be made now, ideally by the summer,” he said, adding that it would take three to six years to modify and expand pipes to carry hydrogen.
