UL Solutions has achieved a milestone in hydrogen safety by issuing its first certification for an industrial hydrogen generator to Ohmium International, a company that’s making strides in proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers.

This certification, based on the UL 2264A Outline of Investigation, marks an important step forward for safety in hydrogen production as the world moves toward cleaner energy.

Ohmium’s PEM electrolyzer system passed rigorous evaluations, addressing critical safety aspects like electrical handling, pressure containment, and leak prevention. This certification reassures that Ohmium’s models—LCC, LWC, LHC, LPC, LTC, and UIB—meet the high standards set out in UL 2264A. This UL Outline of Investigation provides the framework for hydrogen generator safety, ensuring that manufacturers address key risks and that personnel working on these systems are protected.

Ohmium CEO Arne Ballantine expressed pride in achieving the first UL certification for a hydrogen generator, describing it as a milestone for their commitment to safety and reliability. He noted that Ohmium’s PEM electrolyzers integrate seamlessly with renewable sources like wind and solar, making green hydrogen production accessible and cost-effective for their clients.
