The fuel-cell factory that Panasonic Corp. is constructing in the lakeside city of Kusatsu in central Japan will be running on 100 percent renewable energy.

Norihiko Kawamura, who is the manager of Panasonic’s hydrogen business promotion office, told reporters that the carbon neutral pledge by Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has been a “tailwind” for the company’s hydrogen-factory project, and that it plans to begin selling the system worldwide by fiscal year 2023.

Lithium-ion batteries, solar panels, and fuel cells are all being used to generate electricity at Panasonic’s business, which builds fuel-cell systems for houses and condos.

The company hopes to gain over $2.7 billion USD in revenues by selling the commercial hydrogen system in Japan, China, and Europe.
