New Zealand’s North Rakaia has partnered with Mobii Green Energy Group from Taiwan to develop the first green hydrogen AI data centre.
This $2 billion venture includes solar and wind farms, green hydrogen production, and AI data centre campuses in Canterbury, all powered entirely by renewable energy sources. The project represents the first step of Mobii Green Energy’s Global Green Hydrogen Intelligent City initiative.
The data centre, one of the most substantial in New Zealand’s history, aims to drive technological advancement in green energy and AI. It promises to create considerable employment opportunities while enhancing New Zealand’s AI transition and green energy adoption. Technology partners like Super Micro, VNET, TSTI, and Google are integral to this project, offering cutting-edge solutions in data management and green hydrogen technology.
In its initial phase, the initiative will focus on solar and wind power to support the green computing centre featuring 5120 H100 servers. North Rakaia along with its sister company will secure land, provide 1.15 gigawatts of green power, and handle the production of green hydrogen and hydrogen power plant operations.
Plans include a dedicated port for exporting green hydrogen. The project not only prioritizes New Zealand’s green transition but also aims to elevate local AI infrastructure and agriculture.
