PowerCell, a leading provider of hydrogen fuel cell solutions, has entered into a significant five-year frame agreement with ColGar Energy, a subsidiary of the prominent Vantastec Group based in the UK. The agreement entails the serial delivery of hydrogen fuel cell systems, representing a new and exciting market segment for PowerCell.

The potential order value of the agreement is estimated to be around SEK 200 million, marking a substantial opportunity for growth and expansion.

The collaboration with ColGar Energy holds great promise for PowerCell, as their hydrogen-electric solutions align perfectly with the needs of vehicles that require auxiliary power for operations such as refrigeration or heating systems. This partnership will enable the conversion of light commercial vehicles into emission-free vehicles, offering customers sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation options.

ColGar Energy, known for its expertise in converting vehicles for the transportation of hot or cold food, will leverage PowerCell’s advanced fuel cell technology to provide fully emission-free vans. The Vantastec brand, under which these vans are sold, will benefit from the integration of PowerCell’s hydrogen fuel cell systems.

Gareth Edwards, founder and commercial manager of ColGar Energy, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting the positive impact it will have on their position as a leading supplier of future-proof refrigeration and heating vans. With PowerCell’s solutions, ColGar Energy can offer customers vehicles that are not only efficient and reliable but also completely emission-free, contributing to a cleaner and greener transportation sector.

Under the agreement, PowerCell will deliver its VS5 fuel cell system customized for mobility purposes. Each system will have a capacity of 5 kW, providing ample power for the intended applications. The initial deliveries are scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2024, subject to the customer’s acceptance of the product design.

This collaboration between PowerCell and ColGar Energy marks an important step towards the widespread adoption of hydrogen fuel cell technology in the transportation industry. By delivering emission-free solutions for light commercial vehicles, the partnership aims to contribute to a more sustainable future, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting clean energy alternatives.
