Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction stated that it had inked an MOU with Changwon City and Hi Changwon to support the carbon dioxide capture and use project of the Changwon National Industrial Complex’s hydrogen liquefaction facility.

Changwon Mayor Huh Seong-moo, Hi Changwon CEO Baek Jeong-han, and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction CEO Jeong Yeon-in all attended the signing event at Changwon City Hall.

Doosan Heavy Industries & Building will use high-efficiency carbon dioxide capture and utilization (CCU) technology at the Changwon hydrogen liquefaction facility, which started construction in July, according to the agreement. Carbon dioxide capture and utilization is a core technology for blue hydrogen production that absorbs carbon produced during the hydrogen manufacturing process.

Carbon dioxide capture technology is designed, manufactured, built, and operated by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction. Hi Changwon is in responsibility of supplying carbon dioxide and providing assistance from hydrogen liquefaction facilities, while Changwon City is in charge of administrative activities such as linked investment and support programs.

By 2023, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction will construct Korea’s first blue hydrogen plant, which will include a facility to liquefy absorbed carbon dioxide. It generates 5 tons of blue hydrogen and 48 tons of liquefied carbon dioxide per day, which it sells to hydrogen refueling stations and gas producers.
