Provaris, a key player in the hydrogen technology sector, has recently enlisted the expertise of the classification society DNV to review the design of its groundbreaking H2Neo hydrogen carriers.

The collaboration aims to ensure the safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance of Provaris’ hydrogen cargo containment system.

The ambitious project involves the construction and testing of a prototype tank, scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2024, with completion anticipated in the second quarter of the same year. Success in the testing phase holds the key to obtaining essential design and technology development approvals, paving the way for the initiation of shipbuilding projects for the H2Neo compressed hydrogen carriers.

Provaris is set to collaborate closely with DNV in the qualification process for the H2Neo design and hydrogen containment tanks. The involvement of Norwegian company Prodtex in construction and SINTEF in prototype testing and reporting adds additional layers of expertise to the comprehensive work program.

Per Roed, Chief Technical Executive Officer at Provaris, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming prototype testing program, identifying it as a pivotal phase in the technical and H2Neo approvals program. Roed emphasized the growing demand for safe and cost-effective solutions for storing and transporting gaseous compressed hydrogen. The successful validation of Provaris’ proprietary solution through prototype testing could indeed be a game-changer, unlocking significant opportunities in the hydrogen market.

Roed highlighted the strategic importance of assembling a robust team of contributors and partners for this venture. The engagement of DNV, a globally recognized classification society, is expected to further fortify the N2Neo Class approval.

As the world advances towards a hydrogen-powered future, partnerships like the one between Provaris and DNV play a pivotal role in developing and validating technologies that will be crucial for a sustainable and efficient energy landscape.
