Statera Energy is set to hold a public consultation for its green hydrogen project near Kintore, Aberdeenshire in April after concluding an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Scoping process.
A Proposal of Application Notice (PoAN) outlining the project’s consultation plan with the local community has been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council.
The consultation will comprise a public exhibition at the Kintore Bowling Club on the 24th of April, where the project members will answer queries and gather feedback. Those who cannot attend can view the exhibition material on the official [project website](https://kintorehydrogen.co.uk/consultation) and submit their input until the 17th of May. A follow-up update and discussion on the project will take place in June.
The project, dubbed Kintore Hydrogen, aims to apply electrolysis technology to transform electricity from Scottish wind farms into green hydrogen. The eco-friendly gas can be instrumental in addressing power generating facilities and carbon-intensive industrial clusters across the nation.
The location of the site, near the Kintore substation, National Gas transmission pipelines, and the River Don’s non-potable water source, was chosen due to its infrastructure compatibility. It also aids in leveraging the energy sector expertise in the region.
Green hydrogen production is anticipated to spur economic growth in North East Scotland, creating ample job opportunities during the construction and operation phases. Worley is overseeing the engineering and design contract from their Aberdeen office.
Statera anticipates the project will utilize the available skilled workforce and suppliers in the UK’s energy sector, particularly in the North East. The project could place Aberdeenshire at the center of the transition to net-zero with the prospective green hydrogen facility.
