QatarEnergy and Korea’s Hydrogen Convergence Alliance (H2Korea) have inked a hydrogen energy cooperation agreement.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation in the development of the hydrogen sector in both countries, encouraging the growth of the hydrogen industry and the expansion of the hydrogen supply chain, as well as supporting efforts in multilateral fora to speed up cooperation for hydrogen-related technologies around the world.

During their meeting in Doha, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, and Sung-Wook Moon, the Korean Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy, witnessed the signing of the agreement.

Al-Kaabi praised Qatar and Korea’s strong connections and long-standing energy collaboration, and emphasized the two nations’ shared determination to continue to grow and extend this relationship for many decades to come.

“We are thrilled to sign this hydrogen agreement to expand our strong contacts into new frontiers of cleaner energy,” Al-Kaabi said. “This deal builds on our long-standing strategic collaboration in the sphere of liquefied natural gas.” We think hydrogen will play a significant part in the energy transition to a more cheap, dependable, and sustainable energy system, but only if relevant competent entities, such as QatarEnergy and H2Korea, work together to achieve this goal.”

The Korean government established the Hydrogen Convergence Alliance (H2Korea) in 2017 to promote and develop the hydrogen industry with the goal of achieving an early hydrogen economy society in the Republic of Korea and to act as a bridge between the public and private sectors by exploring policy tasks, supporting businesses, international cooperation projects, and public relations projects.
