A group of Harvard University, Shandong University, China University of Petroleum Beijing, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology researchers investigated the feasibility of creating hydrogen by electrolysis utilizing power provided by offshore wind in China.

Shanxi, which has a long history of coal mining, has recently undertaken an economic transition to lessen its dependency on coal and increase its use of innovative and renewable energy sources.

This project allows for the utilization of by-product gas from a neighboring oil refinery as a source of energy. When burnt, by-product gas leaks contaminants into the environment, which has become an issue.

As a consequence, four hydrogen charging stations have been constructed in Jeonju: Pyeonghwa-dong, Songcheon, Samcheon, and Sangrim.

The project, which is anticipated to be completed in 2023, would create 20,000 tons of green hydrogen yearly for a total investment of about 3 billion yuan ($470 million).
