The Indian renewables company ReNew Power plans to create green hydrogen projects in Egypt and Morocco, according to unnamed sources cited by the news website Mint on Tuesday. The corporation has aspirations for Oman as well.
The initiatives are part of the company’s plans to diversify its renewable energy business through projects in the domains of green hydrogen and energy storage.
In April, Nasdaq-listed Renew announced intentions to form a joint venture with oil and gas explorer Indian Oil Corp. and engineering and construction firm Larsen & Toubro to develop green hydrogen projects in India.
Egypt, which will host COP27 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change this year, has devised a hydrogen strategy as part of its ambitious energy transition ambitions. It seeks to have 42 percent of the nation’s electricity mix consist of renewables by 2035.
Morocco, a significant solar energy producer already, is also investing in net-zero options such as green hydrogen.
