Rimere, a California-based cleantech company, has secured a $10 million investment from Clean Energy Fuels Corp., a major player in renewable natural gas.

The funding accelerates the development of Rimere’s Reformer and Mitigator, each tackling a crucial aspect of the clean energy equation.

  • Reformer: This device utilizes proprietary plasma technology to transform natural gas into clean hydrogen and valuable graphene, all without any carbon dioxide emissions. When using renewable natural gas as feedstock, the Reformer can even achieve a negative carbon intensity rating, surpassing conventional renewable electrolysis methods in terms of emission reduction.
  • Mitigator: This plasma thermal oxidizer targets fugitive methane emissions, notorious for their potent greenhouse gas effect. By significantly reducing their impact, the Mitigator offers a cost-effective solution for minimizing emissions, particularly those escaping from natural gas pipelines.

While currently contributing to greenhouse gas emissions during storage, transport, and operations, Rimere’s technology offers a pathway for “cleaning up the infrastructure” and unlocking the potential of natural gas as a contributor to a sustainable energy future.

The Reformer doesn’t just produce clean hydrogen. It also generates “valuable graphene,” a wonder material with applications ranging from electronics and batteries to composites and water purification. This additional output adds another layer of economic and environmental benefit to Rimere’s technology.
