Rostec’s United Engine Corporation announced the launch of a program to develop hydrogen-powered engines for both aviation and ground uses.
The project began in the summer of 2021 with the formation of a working group and the start of R&D activity. The working group was comprised of UEC subsidiary specialists. The power plants will be developed in collaboration with several scientific and industrial institutes, as well as enterprises with extensive expertise using hydrogen as a fuel.
Hydrogen power is one of the most promising engine development directions. There are two ways to use hydrogen: burning it in an engine or generating fuel cells, in which hydrogen combines with oxygen to produce electrical energy while emitting only water vapor as a byproduct.
Power plants with a minimal carbon footprint are being built.
