RPMGlobal’s simulation platform has been enhanced to support hybrid vehicles powered by green hydrogen or hybrid diesel.

The hybrid vehicle functionality, developed in collaboration with tier-one miners and mining OEMs, allows users to simulate and test a variety of scenarios, including vehicles that use hydrogen or hybrid diesel. This is especially useful for mining companies looking to decarbonize their operations and needing a way to quantify potential options.

RPM’s simulation solutions make use of a Discrete Event Simulation (DES) engine that was custom-built for the mining industry. Organizations typically create a base case simulation to serve as a yardstick against which any changes to the haulage network, road rules, mine layout, or vehicles are measured.

Richard Mathews, Chief Executive Officer of RPMGlobal, said the demand for HAULSIM and SIMULATE has been strong. “RPM is experiencing a significant increase in organisations needing to measure and quantify the financial and emission benefits of utilising electric, hydrogen or hybrid diesel alternatives to their traditional diesel fleet.

“The global decarbonization effort has certainly created demand for RPM’s unique simulation solutions that can assist with answering questions that you simply can’t answer in a spreadsheet.”

“RPM’s Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) simulation solutions are already used worldwide by miners, contractors, and OEMs. With mining companies across the world pledging to quantifiably improve their decarbonization efforts towards net-zero targets, software solutions that can measure and quantify the potential benefits of using lower emission options that are available in the market are super important” says Mathews.

Other developments in this latest software release include interaction rules for autonomous vehicles, upgrades to electric vehicle infrastructure simulations, additional microservices to evaluate alternative options remotely (server or cloud), and more detailed reporting for electric vehicles.

With this release, RPM is providing free software and training to anyone participating in the Charge OnTM Innovation Challenge in order to assist participants in delivering innovative decarbonization solutions. This challenge arose as a result of BHP, Rio Tinto, Vale, and Austmine recognizing the importance of the mining industry in addressing climate change. The Charge OnTM Innovation Challenge aims to encourage the development of innovative technology that will aid the mining industry’s decarbonization efforts.

“Any of the companies involved in the Charge OnTM Innovation Challenge simply need to get in touch with us and we will organize access to HAULSIM along with its online user training,” said Mathews.
