The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy will celebrate the completion of the Samcheok hydrogen production base in Samcheok-si, Gangwon-do.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy has been supporting the construction of small-scale hydrogen production bases that use city gas in seven regions around the country since 2019 to solve regional bias in hydrogen supply for vehicles.

Samcheok hydrogen production base is the third after Changwon and Pyeongtaek, and the first with shipping facilities in Gangwon.

The Samcheok hydrogen production base can produce 1 ton of hydrogen per day for Gangwon-do hydrogen charging stations.

Samcheok scheduled a test run and equipment inspection with full-scale production in the middle of next month, but some facilities started functioning before Chuseok.

On the 1st, Gangwon-do will have five hydrogen filling stations. The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy wants to run all seven small-scale hydrogen production bases based on natural gas early next year and assist the creation of a clean hydrogen production base in the future.

In response to a temporary disruption in the supply and demand of hydrogen at some refueling stations other than Gangwon, such as Chungbuk, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy promoted additional supply, such as early operation of production and shipment facilities and conversion of industrial hydrogen for transportation.
