The state of Saxony-Anhalt plans to invest in green hydrogen infrastructure with funding at the double-digit million level.
“From 2023, the Ministry of Energy plans to spend about 55 million euros on cross-state projects to extend lines and storage systems alone,” Energy Minister Armin Willingmann (SPD) stated in a statement to the state legislature’s environment committee on Wednesday.
The federal government chose transnational infrastructure projects to establish a European hydrogen network last year. Between 2023 and 2027, these will be installed. The federal states are required to contribute 30% of the costs. The federal government is likely to set aside roughly 130 million euros for Saxony-Anhalt, while the Ministry of the Environment will set up 55 million euros. A total of about 185 million euros will be invested in the state’s line and storage projects.
The majority of the 149.1 million euros will be spent on hydrogen storage at Bad Lauchstädt in the Saale area, as well as a pipeline connecting Bad Lauchstädt, Leuna, and Salzgitter in Lower Saxony. Two more pipeline projects are receiving 35.7 million euros. Willingmann stated, “Our objective is to make Saxony-Anhalt a leader in green hydrogen.” The goal is to chart a path for the country’s prosperous growth in the following decades.
