SJVN has inaugurated the country’s first Multi-purpose Green Hydrogen Pilot Project at the Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (NJHPS) in Jhakri, Himachal Pradesh.
Smt. Geeta Kapur, Chairman & Managing Director of SJVN, inaugurated the Green Hydrogen Pilot Project, featuring a 20Nm3/hr electrolyzer and 25kW fuel cell capacity. This project is unique in its capability to serve the High-Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) Coating Facility of NJHPS while generating electricity through its fuel cell.
One of the project’s key highlights is its reliance on renewable energy, sourced from SJVN’s 1.31 MW Solar Power Plant in Wadhal, Himachal Pradesh. By utilizing renewable energy for electrolysis, the project ensures a sustainable approach to green hydrogen production.
The Pilot Project aims to produce 14 kgs of green hydrogen daily during 8 hours of operation. This hydrogen will be stored in six storage tanks with a total capacity of 12 m3 at 30 bar pressure. Such storage capacity ensures a reliable supply of green hydrogen for various applications, including HVOF coating and electricity generation.
In addition to the green hydrogen initiative, Smt. Kapur inaugurated the centralized operation of NJHPS and Rampur Hydro Power Station (Rampur HPS). The successful operation of Rampur HPS on a Tandem Operating System with NJHPS highlights SJVN’s commitment to operational efficiency and synergy between its power stations.
