SK E&S made waves at COP28 by signing a global memorandum of understanding for the construction of Korea’s largest low-carbon hydrogen plant.

This monumental agreement involves a collaboration with global partners, including GE Vernova, Air Liquide Engineering & Construction, Chungcheongnam-do, and Korea Midland Power.

The primary goal of this groundbreaking initiative is the establishment of a low-carbon hydrogen project in Korea. SK E&S, along with its esteemed partners, envisions a plant that will play a pivotal role in producing and supplying 250,000 tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen annually. This hydrogen will find applications in both mobility and power generation, contributing significantly to the region’s sustainable energy landscape.

Air Liquide Engineering & Construction, a key partner in the venture, will be responsible for supplying cutting-edge hydrogen production and liquefaction equipment. Meanwhile, GE will leverage its expertise to manufacture hydrogen/natural gas co-fired turbines, marking a technological leap in the field. This collaboration signifies a comprehensive approach to low-carbon hydrogen production, aligning with global efforts to reduce carbon footprints.

Situated in the city of Boryeong in the Chungcheongnam-do region, the project’s strategic location places it at the heart of the Republic of Korea. With a population of around 2 million, this initiative is poised to make a significant impact on the region’s economy and sustainability goals. The annual production of 250,000 tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen is set to revolutionize both mobility and power generation, offering cleaner energy solutions.
