Schlumberger Limited (SLB) has entered into a strategic partnership with John Cockerill Hydrogen, a global leader in hydrogen technology.
This collaboration aims to accelerate the development and deployment of pressurized alkaline electrolyzers, a technology with the potential to play a significant role in the green hydrogen revolution.
Green hydrogen, produced via electrolysis using renewable energy, represents a promising pathway towards decarbonization. Among the various electrolyzer technologies used for clean hydrogen production, alkaline electrolyzers (AELs) currently dominate commercial applications. AELs offer advantages like established technology and lower upfront costs compared to some alternatives.
The partnership brings together John Cockerill Hydrogen’s existing commercial portfolio and development expertise in pressurized AELs with SLB’s extensive experience in technology industrialization, global reach, and service delivery capabilities. SLB highlights their aim to leverage this combined expertise to accelerate the global deployment of John Cockerill’s technology portfolio and collaborate on advancing the development of next-generation AELs.
Scaling Up Green Hydrogen Production
Hydrogen’s potential as a clean energy carrier hinges on the ability to produce it at scale in a low-carbon manner. While AELs offer a proven technology path, widespread adoption requires overcoming existing limitations.
John Cockerill Hydrogen’s existing portfolio includes 5MW electrolyzer stacks and complete 30MW pressurized AEL systems. These systems boast the potential to produce over 12 tons of clean hydrogen per day, a significant capacity for various clean energy applications.
