Smartenergy has gained approval to build a 200MW renewable hydrogen facility in Sardinia, Italy.
The Porto Torres industrial complex in northeastern Sardinia will house the renewable hydrogen plant that was approved for development, building, and operation by the Sassari Provincial Industrial Consortium.
According to a news release from Smartenergy, the facility will have a 200MW renewable hydrogen production capacity and be finished in three phases in 2030.
In addition to the potential for a plant to create renewable methanol for export and e-fuels for the aviation and shipping sectors, the project is anticipated to provide a blend of renewable hydrogen to local sectors.
The anticipated delivery dates are 2026 to 2030, and the permitting process is expected to begin in the first half of 2023.
