South Australia Unveils the Hydrogen Business Directory

In a pioneering move to boost its burgeoning hydrogen industry, South Australia has unveiled a comprehensive hydrogen business directory featuring over 260 firms actively involved or interested in the hydrogen supply chain.

Backed by the South Australian Government and facilitated by the Industry Capability Network of South Australia (ICN SA), this directory aims to catalyze the growth of the state’s hydrogen sector and foster collaboration among various stakeholders.

The directory, compiled through a meticulous expression of interest process earlier this year, encompasses a diverse range of businesses engaged in various aspects of the hydrogen value chain. From upstream contributors in hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and distribution to downstream players involved in applications like green iron manufacturing, the directory offers a holistic view of South Australia’s hydrogen capabilities.

What sets this initiative apart is the depth of information it provides about each business listed. This includes critical details such as company size, compliance status, and whether the business is Aboriginal-owned. This transparency enables project owners and stakeholders to make informed decisions when selecting partners for specific projects within the hydrogen domain.

The ultimate goal of this venture is to solidify South Australia’s position as a global player in the green energy transition. Dr. Susan Close, South Australia’s Deputy Premier and Minister for Industry, Innovation, and Science, underscored the state’s potential to manufacture and export environmentally conscious products like green iron and processed critical minerals. These initiatives align perfectly with the principles of sustainable development and circular resource management.

Tom Koutsantonis, the Minister for Energy and Mining, emphasized the broader implications of this endeavor. He noted that as the world pivots towards decarbonization, South Australia is well-positioned to reindustrialize its economy, provided that it attracts private investments. This hydrogen business directory serves as a crucial bridge connecting interested companies with the vast opportunities offered by South Australia’s hydrogen and green steel initiatives.

South Australia’s commitment to hydrogen development has been steadily gaining momentum. Earlier this year, Premier Peter Malinauskas unveiled more details about the anticipated Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Act, signaling the state’s dedication to a sustainable energy future.

As the global energy landscape shifts towards cleaner alternatives, South Australia’s bold move to create this hydrogen business directory marks a significant step towards realizing its ambitious hydrogen goals. With transparency, collaboration, and sustainability at its core, this initiative could be the catalyst that propels South Australia to the forefront of the global hydrogen revolution.
