The Hydromotion team at TU Delft has developed a hydrogen-powered hydrofoil. It is the student team’s first hydrogen-powered ship; in past years, individuals have concentrated on solar energy or hydrogen-powered boats.
The boat weighs roughly 1300 kilos and travels at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour when it emerges from the ocean. The boat is intended to attain a cruising speed of 40 kilometers per hour when using the hydrofoils, with a peak speed of 50 kilometers per hour. The hydrogen powerhouse generates 30 kilowatts of continuous electricity and 40 kilowatts of peak power (53 hp).
Between July 4 and 10, the Delft team will compete in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2022 in the Open Sea Class, alongside commercial boat builders.
