Off-track, Extreme E performed a successful first test of a brand-new and cutting-edge mobile fuel cell system provided by ENOWA, the competition’s Green Hydrogen Power Partner, while it produced a stunning opening X Prix of Season 3 on the circuit.

The hydrogen fuel cell technology will be a source of green electricity in the NEOM region since it is a more transportable energy source and has a significant capacity for energy storage. The fuel cell was used for the first time ever at the Desert X Prix to power the fleet of electric racing cars used in the Championship.

ENOWA, the powerhouse for renewable energy, water, and hydrogen at NEOM, has been working with Extreme E since 2022 as part of a groundbreaking partnership. The partnership’s main goals have been to promote hydrogen as a more pervasive sustainable alternative and to showcase the use of green hydrogen power at the race venue.

The most potential energy source in the fight for effective climate change action is generally regarded as green hydrogen. This technology aids in the decarbonization of important businesses and infrastructure as well as the long-distance transportation of renewable energy.

The fuel cell system is a cutting-edge, off-grid, low-carbon energy technology that delivers a dependable hydrogen-based power solution for distant places. It was developed by ENOWA in partnership with Energys.

The unique system, based on technical specifications created by ENOWA, is one of the largest commercial fuel cells in operation, with “first of its kind” integrated functionalities.

With its designated race venues, Extreme E has emerged as a role model for the coexistence of motorsports, thrill, and sustainability as well as a spokesperson for our planet’s climatic hot regions. Another initiative the show has made to push the limits of sustainability and entertaining is the installation of the hydrogen fuel cell system.
