SunHydrogen, Inc., the developer of a ground-breaking technology for renewable hydrogen production utilizing sunlight and water, has entered into a 12-month sponsored research agreement with the University of Michigan.

SunHydrogen will use the agreement to design and test extremely efficient catalysts for oxygen and hydrogen evolution that will reduce material costs while retaining a high solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency. Additionally, the university team will conduct a thorough technoeconomic analysis of SunHydrogen’s complete process.

Dr. Nirala Singh, an assistant professor of chemical engineering at the University of Michigan, will lead the effort. Dr. Singh will lead the team, which will also include two postdoctoral scientists. The work will be carried out in collaboration with SunHydrogen’s existing development partners, including the University of Iowa, the SCHMID Group, and InRedox.

“Dr. Singh has an exceptional track record in optimizing electrochemical processes to effectively utilize renewable electricity,” said SunHydrogen CEO Tim Young. “He was among the inventors of our original patented technology and we are happy to have him back on the team.”
