A memorandum of agreement was signed by the Saline Water Conversion Corporation and Cummins Saudi Arabia Company Ltd. on the development of a hydrogen gas generating facility.

The Corporation aims to carry out this project as part of its global commitment to providing creative, long-term solutions for the water business. This effort is in accordance with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which calls for the use of clean energy in all projects and the diversification of the Kingdom’s economic resources so that it may lead the world in alternative energy generation. Cummins’ financial ability to deploy large-scale hydrogen projects, combined with its global presence, mass production facilities, and active participation in various global energy councils (including hydrogen councils), positions the company as a trusted player to meet the needs of the growing hydrogen economy.

On behalf of SWCC, His Excellency the Executive Director of Investments, Mr. Issam bin Abdullah Al-Jarba, and Mr. Amit Deshpande, Managing Director, Cummins Arabia, signed the Memorandum of Understanding. This is in accordance with the Kingdom’s plan to collaborate on clean hydrogen generation and establish a cooperative fund to develop relevant technologies. A step toward enacting the circular carbon economy, as well as bolstering strategic initiatives and demonstrating a strong commitment to combat climate change and decrease carbon emissions.

Strengthening collaboration in engineering and research consultancy, as well as training in renewable energy, was among the goals of the pact, which was signed on the sidelines of Dubai Expo 2020. Desalination’s direction as an industrial entity involved in economic development is to address the challenges posed by global climate change by developing practical solutions that employ modern and promising technologies and reduce carbon emissions; developing hydrogen gas production facilities and adopting hydrogen as an energy source; and supporting the transformation of the water industry into a safe and environmentally conscious industry.

With significant projects that use hydrogen energy for carbon-free, sustainable communities, the MoU brings the economy one step closer to the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Supporting the development of hydrogen as a source of energy by departments like Saline Water Conversion Corporation is a contributing role in altering global energy chains and assisting energy production in an ecologically acceptable manner by lowering emissions.
