Symbio, a joint venture between Forvia, Michelin, and Stellantis, has officially inaugurated SymphonHy, Europe’s largest integrated fuel cell production site.
The gigafactory, located in Saint-Fons, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, signifies a monumental step in the region’s pursuit of net-zero emissions and technological excellence.
SymphonHy stands as a testament to Symbio’s commitment to advancing zero-emission hydrogen mobility. The gigafactory aims to accelerate the development and production of competitive, high-performance hydrogen fuel cells. As part of the HyMotive project, supported by the European Union and the French government, SymphonHy is set to create 1,000 jobs, contributing significantly to the clean energy sector.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, SymphonHy boasts high levels of automation and robotics, paving the way for large-scale industrial production at a competitive cost. This technological prowess is pivotal in realizing Symbio’s vision of making hydrogen-powered transport more accessible, efficient, and cost-effective, ultimately contributing to Europe’s energy transition.
With a current production capacity of 16,000, expected to reach 50,000 by 2026, SymphonHy’s potential impact on hydrogen mobility is substantial. The gigafactory’s focus on innovation, clean energy practices, and certification as “Very Good” by BREEAM positions it as a key player in shaping the future of hydrogen-powered vehicles, supporting Europe’s ambitious net-zero goals.
